Zencoaster Deletes Posts
That’s right, as the oh-so-factual headline states; upcoming coaster site ‘Zencoaster’ has began deleting their innocent users’ posts.
It all started Sunday night, when 8 posts were ‘edited’ by site administrator ‘Tony’, to mask the fact that a site launch had been promised for that very weekend. The site didn’t launch, and instead of just making an excuse (DreamNova style), the authoritarian administrator edited all the posts in the thread, to remove any mention of a site launch.
24 Comments:
An old school friend was recently beaten, raped and her hair shaved from her head. To make matters even more personal, it was by someone we both went to school with, actually her boyfriend.
That's why I have been distracted and I made some edits which I felt derailed what I wanted to keep as factual announcements not pats-on-the-back. The majority of information threads have been stickied expressely for announcement purposes, nothing more.
(AAL, please delete my first Blogger post to this article as it left off some information).

It's an absolutely disgusting thing that has happened and it's satisfying that her boyfriend will be behind bars. And we know how popular rapists are in jail, don't we?
I thank you all in advance for your discretion and respect of my privacy in this situation, don't want to make a big deal about it here.

That's why I have been distracted which meant doing some content updates became very low on my priority list.
A few times I made some edits which I felt derailed what I wanted to keep as factual announcements about what people could expect.
I also didn't make the topics to receive verbal congratulations... they were just for the purpose of announcing what was coming, which is why they were stickied.
Anyway, getting right down to it, it's an absolutely disgusting thing that has happened and it's satisfying that her boyfriend will be behind bars. And we know how popular rapists are in jail, don't we?

uhh... as tragic and horrible as that sounds it doesn't actually have anything to do with what the article mentioned. good play of the sympathy card though.
what's interesting is you say you never intended for it to be an open thread with congratulations, yet the moderation didn't occur until after the "launch" weekend was over and you even actively posted responses to what people had said in this thread.
Jesus! Just lay off the guy
Good play of the sympathy card? Go to hell. Like I'd use an assault and rape of a really special friend to any kind of advantage.
Obviously the moderation occured after the launch weekend was over because then it was impossible to launch on the weekend. Not exactly rocket science. And yes, I did respond to people in the thread because I didn't want to be rude. Responding and launching the website are two very different things in terms of the time and focus it takes.
This whole affair has been a massive beatup and it's also particularly strange that the first non-parody article on AAL sets out to be a '60 Minutes'-style 'menace to society' piece. No, not even that. Today Tonight quality. All we need now is slo-mo footage of me with a pixelated face and ominous music.
I also hadn't responded to AAL yet because I don't sit by the computer all day checking emails.
Could you exercise some discretion? There's no need to get into the details of the event. You're only making it worse for the person(s) involved.
This is a theme park site for discussing theme park issues. Leave your personal life out of it.
For Christ's sake, I didn't mention any names. My personal life DOES come into this, I didn't say this to wave what occurred around but it's the major factor for why the launch was delayed (which led to the removal of the weekend launch being changed to avoid confusion when the original post was set to say 'this week')
That's why originally I simply said about having the flu, which was put into the ORIGINAL post so it was very clearly visible as a public explanation.
And as you say, this is a theme park site for discussng theme park issues not launching witch hunts on webmasters who do all of you favours with their time and energy.
Lay off.
^^^ i didn't realise my post would come up as anonymous (the one at 2:01).
i just wonder why would you even mention that tragic situation unless to evoke some kind of sympathy. I am by no means trivialising you or your friend's circumstances but it just seemed like such an irrelevant thing to bring up here especially because you've already said that the reason it didnt launch was because of a flu. seem like two very differnet things
(btw i'm not THAT ben. lol )
As I said, the flu was initially the public excuse. I have had the flu anyway but the event was the proper reason.
I certainly don't want sympathy as it's not me it happened to so don't think that. I just wanted you all to have an appreciation that what caused the delay was not slackness on my part but a very good reason.
Beyond that, nothing more can really be said on the matter.
"That's why I have been distracted and I made some edits which I felt derailed what I wanted to keep as factual announcements not pats-on-the-back. The majority of information threads have been stickied expressely for announcement purposes, nothing more."
You're assuming the conclusion. Although it is a horrible thing that has happened to your friend, it's utterly irrelevant. You can't say, "This happened, so that makes my post-editing alright, because 'I was distracted'". It just doesn't work like that.
This isn't an attack, but unfortunately, you're getting yourself a reputation for being somewhat of a liar in this community, with your broken promises of updates and the like - I guess you could say the 'site launch' thing was the last straw. If it had of been a one-off thing, then no mention would have been made whatsoever; we all make mistakes, and these things happen, but unfortunately, it's happened more than once.
Oh, and what's wrong with Today Tonight? Don't you think it's funny?!
P.S. This isn't a 'witch hunt'. People have the right to know what sites are partaking in this sort of activity, no matter what the circumstances. In the article, facts were presented; nothing more.
You could have held off on the article until hearing from me. This was not something with a deadline. And people don't sit on the computer all day.
It's a crock of shit to say I'm a liar. Lying is the act of deceit. I have never promised things on a certain date lightly. If there's one thing I'm guilty of, it's of getting
swamped in the past couple of months
by things that have had to take priority - most of all, my friend.
And anyone with common sense will understand that life sometimes throws up other priorities in general.
It's why we can't spend as much time as we'd like on hobbies like going to theme parks, why we can't spend each and every day going to movies or hitting nightclubs every night - or even seeing a girlfriend every day.
That's one reason Dreamnova took as long as it did to get up. It's why when Richard attends a Media Day the content doesn't go up right that evening. It's why OzCoaster doesn't update twice a week or every week or at SOME precise interview.
Nobody lies to their users. Myself included. What's more, people on the site have still gained some content like Tornado pics/video, bits of news.
I was also honest about the delay and had changed the original post to mention the public reason 'the flu' and that it was delayed to sometime this week. Didn't hide that.
And it most certainly does feel like a witchhunt when I'm being nailed to the wall for things being delayed by something bigger and more important than a website about theme parks.
I have NOT done anything sinister and I'm not ashamed of anything I have done in this situation.
[Delete those first two duplicate comments already]
AAL deletes nothing.
rofl @ 'THAT ben'...!
I'm not asking for the article to be deleted, I'm asking for the first two comments I made to be deleted because they are duplicates and don't have all the information of the third one.
Geez! What does it matter to you anyway? You try making a site and getting it launched on the exact day promised? Infact, you try making a site! All you've got is a stupid blog and all you do is insult people! Honestly, get a life!
I know you might be frustrated that the site didn't launch when it was meant to, but really, what does it matter if it's late?! There's WAY more to life than making websites about coasters, if Tony chose not to launch it, that's his decision. Why should he be forced to give reasons why he chose to do what he did? Why do you care so much? Expect no sympathy when something happens to you! Karma will get you!
...On reading that over, I just realised just how frustrated it sounds... and it's for a reason! :P
Who cares if a member of the moderating team on Zen Coaster is a person at the age of 12. I'm surprised that an adult could be what seems to be jealous about a child having what they want. Whats it matter, aslong as they do there job.
Honestly, get a life! - - No.
What does it matter if it's late? - - Where did we complain about the site being late? The purpose of the article (did you even read it?) was to outline the fact that posts were edited/deleted to remove any mention of a site launch.
If Tony chose not to launch it, that's his decision - - If I choose to write about the post editing, that's my decision.
Why should he be forced to give reasons why he chose to do what he did? - - He never was.
Why do you care so much? - - Because people have the right to know what sites edit users' posts. Why do you?
Karma will get you! - - Yeah, Probably.
I'm surprised that an adult could be what seems to be jealous about a child having what they want. - - Totally. Green with envy.
Whats it matter, aslong as they do there job. - - If you're one of the mods, that's reason enough to complain. There's 4 spelling/grammatical errors in that sentence alone.
I know i'd question the maturity of a 12 year old... and any webmaster who puts power in the hands of any 12 year old. not sure what that has to do with this though.
Yeah. I don't know how this has come into the discussion either. But our moderating team does not have an average age of 12, that was a joke on AAL's part. We only have a single mod who is that age. Until recently, I wasn't even aware that person was as young as that. He doesn't have his birth year in his profile.
Fact is though, he actually acts more maturely than a lot of older people. If he does a good job when the forum really gets active, I have no problem with his age and neither should any of you.
"If he does a good job when the forum really gets active, I have no problem with his age and neither should any of you."
yep... provided he deletes his quota of user's posts i'm sure he'll be fine.
lol sorry couldn't resist :-)
back to the story at hand, I don't think it's ever cool to delete posts that are questioning (harmlessly - for the benefit of everyone involved) the site's authority. that's censorship.
if you're going to offer the world and not deliver, to hide this fact later on is dishonest and a misrepresentation of yourself.
even if you have legitimate reasons for delays (which i personally think you don't given the history you have of never fulfilling promises) you should have to face up to it at the end of the day and not just selectively edit and delete posts to make it look like no such promises were made.
get back to china tony! they love censorship just as much as you.
lol. What a joke.
idiot. he wanted his duplicate comments deleted not the article. learn to read.
I love this blog and I hope the excellent articles continue. There is a desperate lack of quality control when it comes to Aussie park sites and AAL helps expose the dodgy ones.
I have had a major problem with Tony and Zencoaster for quite a while now. Never have I come across someone who promises so much and delivers so little. It all started a few months back (pre Zencoaster) when Tony would make regular comments on roller-coaster.com.au like "I will have a full photo update up by this arvo". You'd come back in the arvo and there'd be nothing. Same the next day and the next. This happened countless times. Now we are just experiencing the same thing with Zencoaster but even worse.
I completely understand if Tony has other priorities but if this is the case he should give up his website and any moderation he is doing and move on. Go back to being an observor
